Jeb Corliss is completely off his head – but then again I wish I had his balls!

Its winding the clock back a bit to September 25, 2011 but Jeb Corliss and Matt Gerdes jump or fly down Heavans Gate Mountain (Tianmen Shan) located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in northwestern Hunan Province, China and its the perfect point to start the article due to the quality of the video (unsurprisingly the video went viral with over 2.1 million views by the end of Feb this year)

Seriously is this guy off his head? or is it us lesser mortals that are not quite making the most of our lives! Personally I am in awe of anybody that does this once let alone bases his life around it, like Jeb seems to have done.

A Death-wish well perhaps. Wants’ fame at any price, maybe! But I prefer to think that the excitement of using a wingsuit in an environment such as the Mountains of Hunan is just so overwhelming and addictive that these things have come as a result of his going with the flow of where his spirit has taken him. Man it looks like his spirit has a serious adrenaline complex!

Superlative Heaven’s Gate Mountain video aside, the next day Jeb jumps out of a helicopter at 6,000 above the same mountain to feet to fly through a natural arch eroded through a karst peak. He’s flying through a ruddy cave for gods sake before landing with a parachute on a bridge further down.

Jeb failed at his first attempt to fly through the arch, but succeeded the second time round. Anybody reading this is bound to ask what happens when you fail?

Dailymotion go onto say “According to Corliss, the first attempt failed due to smoke brackets on his feet that did not work properly and forced him to take a detour. He has become the first wingsuit stuntman to fly in China.” so it does not have to be so bleak an outcome as you might at first be thinking.

However it seems like Jeb has certainly had his share of close scrapes, indeed in October 2003 Jeb was teamed with Australian BASE jumper Dwain Weston. Jeb to fly under the Royal Gorge Bridge near Cañon City, Colorado and Dwain to fly over it. Dwain didn’t make it and he flew directly into it; killed instantaneously.

More recently on 16 January 2012 Jeb hit rock. Flying off Table Mountain, at Cape Town, he broke both ankles, three toes, and a fibula, tore his left ACL, and took a deep gash in his shin requiring a skin graft. As you can see in the following clip he didn’t quite clear a ledge while trying to take out a target balloon. The impact threw him into a roll and for a second you cant help but think its all over, yet incredibly he regains control and deployed his chute.

So I guess no further jump action for the man that would immitate Superman – think again.

It’s official – Jebs back!

and with a bang, and about to take part in the World Wingsuit League‘s first ever event at Tianman Mountain.

It takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday. Lets wish the man luck!

In this video he flies the course to wet our appitite just a little more.
