Kamchatka, in the Russian Far East. Not a place for mortal men. Unless you were fortunate enough to be on the Spanish Highs team that recently visited with a Berghaus sponsorship and the aim of Skiing volcanoes.
In April 2013 Berghaus and Prior Snowboards ambassador Julia Pickering and her team headed out to the far Eastern Russian peninsula of Kamchatka. Their aim was to climb and snowboard the highest active volcano in Eurasia, Klyuchevskoy Sopka, 4750m. This enormous and nearly conical volcano is vigorously active, averaging an eruption every other year, making it one of the most active volcanos in the world. In 2013 she has erupted twice so far. Here’s a brief glimpse of their story.
